The board game of Monopoly has been a world-wide sensation for several decades. Chances are, you grew up playing Monopoly, and your parents grew up playing Monopoly. Now, it’s time to introduce your own children to the fun game of Monopoly. But, don’t just introduce your kids to just any version of Monopoly! Introduce them to the latest version of the iconic game, Monopoly Here and Now World Edition.
Monopoly Here and Now World Edition was introduced by Hasbro in summer 2008 and is the first international edition of the game. That’s right, it’s an international version that incorporates different cities from around the world into the game board. Hasbro conducted a worldwide vote to find out what cities people wanted to be included on the Monopoly Here and Now World game board.
Nearly 6 million votes were cast worldwide to determine the winning cities. Montreal received the most votes and replaced the most expensive property, Boardwalk. Riga, Latvia came in second and takes the spot formerly held by Park Place. Voters were also instructed to write in cities that weren’t included on the list that they’d like to see included. The cities with the most write-in votes were Taipei, China, and Gdynia, Poland. These cities took the place of the least expensive properties on the new Monopoly Here and Now World game board.
Monopoly Here and Now World Edition also includes updated Community Chest and Chance cards to reflect different events from cities around the world. For example, people might visit Spain for the Running of the Bulls or New York City for New Year’s Eye.
As a result of this update, Monopoly Here and Now World is now a great way for children to learn about cities around the world that they might not know about otherwise. It’s a great cultural and geography lesson disguised as a board game. That’s why you’ll want to pick up your very own version for Christmas this year. You’ll be teaching your family about the world while spending quality time with them as well. It’s a win-win situation!
