Wrinkle-Fighting Foods

As we all continue t0 try to look our best amidst all the chaos we call work, family, and “free time” there are many thing that slip our mind.  One thing I never thought about too much was ways I can eat properly in order to keep my skin looking young, fresh, and smooth.  Of course, I know all about wrinkle prevention, and have written numerous articles on the various ways we can prevent wrinkles, but there is an intriguing thought going around the skin care world – what if we could eat well in order to supplement our skin care knowledge and thus prevent wrinkles through food?

This thought has been discussed in some of the skin care groups I meet with in Miami.  Many people have weighed in on this topic, and a lot of research has gone into this.  So what is the final answer?  I am afraid to tell you there is no one magical food that you can consumer each and every day that is the end-all answer to great skin.  However, there are many foods you can consume that help fortify your skin cells and add powerful nutrients that lead to smooth, wrinkle-free skin much later in life.  Here is a brief summary of a list I hope to add to later on as I gather more information. Foods that are high in antioxidants help counteract a decrease in collagen, elasticity and firmness in aging skin.

Tomatoes are a fabulous wrinkle prevention food mainly because they have the ingredient lycopene.  Additionally, red peppers have massive amounts of Vitamin A and Vitamin E, as well as bioflavonoids.  Bioflavonoids work to moisturize and heal skin. Lastly, vegetables such as beets and carrots are also worth adding to your diet if you want to prevent wrinkles.

Nuts and berries are another excellent source of antioxidants.  This includes almonds, blueberries, raspberries, peanuts (try to eat the unsalted ones to decrease sodium intake), and strawberries, among many others.  These are great snacks that will leave you feeling full and decrease your appetite, which is a very healthy way to keep your weight under control.

If you like to eat fish, salmon contains a very high amount of omega-3 fatty acids.  Omega-3 fatty acides reduce inflammation and work to lubricate the skin.

Besides eating well, it is very important to not smoke .  Smoking leads to wrinkles because of it’s damaging ingredients and the fact that you have to make habitual expressions when you perform the act of smoking.  Also, do your best to drink four to six glasses of water a day in order to stay wrinkle free and maintain the natural shine on your skin.

The sooner you incorporate these tips into y0ur daily skin care plan, the sooner you will realize the benefits.  It’s essential to stick to a solid anti aging game plan if you want to have smooth, wrinkle free skin later in life.  If you don’t heed to the advice, you’ll find yourself scrambling for the best wrinkle cream to apply to your face in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  That can not only be tedious, but it can be expensive.
