Recall of Pillar Candles With Jewels

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Pillar Candles With Jewels

Units: About 17,000

Distributor: Target, of Minneapolis, Minn.

Importer: Pacific Trade International Inc., of Rockville, Md.

Hazard: The paint coating on the outside of the candle can ignite, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: The candles measure about 3-inches in diameter and come in two sizes – 3-inches and 6-inches high. Each candle has a black paint coating and has eight diamond-like ornaments at evenly spaced points approximately 1-inch from the candle’s bottom edge. They are packaged in clear plastic wrapping which is tied at the top with a ribbon. “Distributed by Target Corporation” and the number 054 09 1533 or 054 09 2528 are printed on a label on the bottom of each candle.

Sold at: Target stores nationwide during the month of August 2005 for about $5 or $8 depending on the size.

Manufactured In: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the candles immediately and return them to the nearest Target store for a Target GiftCard worth the value of the returned candle.
