Important Things to Know When Buying Skin Products

For about twenty years, I’ve been a skin care consumer. My master bathroom is flooded with different skin care product lines. Often times my friends will joke on me that I invest more on skin care products like eye serums, body lotions, moisturizing cream, and wrinkle creams than on my education. I didn’t know that I’d become such a large voice in the skin care industry, or a respected reviewer of products, but it’s been a fun job.  My addiction to skin care products started during my teenage years. I was fascinated by the marketing, presentation and packaging. Now, I would like to share a few facts with you from what I have discovered along the way.

The best products available usually have a good re-buy ratio.  This means they work.  if someone constantly invests in something, by all means, there is a sign somewhere that it is doing something.  I sometimes pass on companies that have skimpy packaging, lack details about ingredients, or that just don’t answer phone calls or email.  This assumes I’m looking online, which is what I prefer.  Over the years I’ve found out how much commission the people who work in malls get, and that often times brands pay for their product to be pushed over all of the others.  So, I stick to the web now when I do research.

Another great fact I want to share is, not all big and well known companies deliver the best products. Some of these companies, I will not give any names, release new skin care products with large marketing campaigns. Don’t be deceived with big and well-known products, it doesn’t mean they always have the best quality. I feel so happy and content with the product made by this little guy who wears a white coat and has a name that is difficult to pronounce.  While that may be extreme, my point is, I don’t care who makes it if it works.

I know it may sound ridiculous, but small businesses have more passion when it comes to skin care products and they are more customer-service oriented. Unlike the big companies, who make money hand over fist, they usually strive to take care of each customer’s individual needs and are very hands-on.

Try to contact L’Oreal and just see what happens.  I’m not picking on them, but just saying, give it a shot.  You won’t get the custom, personal approach you get from a smaller firm.  The fact is, most products are made at a handful of facilities in the USA.  If they are made abroad, little is known about the facility, but all of the USA ones are under strict guidelines and this ensures they are compliant with health codes as well as up to speed on the latest safe practices.

Sometimes, you can find neatly-packed skin care products at boutique salon or online shops.  But if you want to purchase products from any of these shops, make sure to know about their return policy first so it will not be difficult for you to look for them if you happen to see any problem and want to ask a refund. And always keep your receipts, like I do. It will help you in case you’ll encounter any problem regarding the product. I know these facts are general and some may know about them, but these are helpful facts I can share to you from my journey in skin care industry. Enjoy your Shopping!
