Terry, there is a very easy way to break the wallnut shell without damaging the pieces. Take a pointy knife, and put the tip of it in the “rounder” part of the wallnut (not in the pointy side of the wallnut). Once you have the knife in position, push it in a little bit, and then twist the knife: the nut should split in two easily.

Please be careful with the knife: it could easily slip and hurt you.

I have one of these adorable baby Jesus in the shell ornaments, but instead of a pompon its a tiny piece of cloth covering the baby’s body.
My question is how to break the shell without damaging both pieces! Is there any place you can buy them halved?
