Give Her a Pebble This Valentine’s Day
First came the simple wristwatch, and then came the excitement of a watch with a built-in calculator. After this came the smartphone, which caused millions of people all over the world to put away their watches for good. The watch was seemingly dead, relegated to the wrists of those who wear them for fashion or as a status symbol instead of for their functionality.
Like all good ideas, the watch is beginning to make a comeback. This is due to a new wave of smartwatches led by the Pebble watch, which happens to be the perfect companion to your smartphone. It can connect using Bluetooth to your iPhone or Android device and control your music and GPS, among other things.
The Pebble watch started as just an idea in the mind of Pebble Technology quickly became a reality after they raised more than $10 million using the crowdsourcing site Kickstarter. Initially they were only trying to raise $100,000, but knew they were on to something when they had over $3 million in donations in the first four days.
The Pebble watch is fully customizable. You can change the watch face whenever you want by downloading anything from an old-school face with second and minute hands, to a futuristic looking digital display to everything in-between. Because of the e-Ink display, the screen is visible even in the brightest sunlight.
Beyond the coolness of the watch itself is the fact that the Pebble Smartwatch is Bluetooth 4.0 compatible. It can sync with any iPhone, iPad or Android device and can act as a music or GPS controller, meaning you can go jogging and change the music without stopping, or you can drive and look at your GPS without risking a car wreck. It can also tell you when you are receiving calls on your phone and tell you the number of the person calling. The possibilities are endless because the Pebble has its own platform, meaning people are beginning to develop apps to run on it. Some of the initial apps have to do with athletes and working out, because the Pebble is perfect as a bike or running computer. It is great for keeping track of how many miles you’ve walked, biked or run. This is the first watch designed to actually help out people with an active lifestyle. Carrying your phone or device around all the time is a hassle and you run the risk of dropping it or breaking it more often. After many trips to the iPhone repair shop, you are going to appreciate the ease of using a watch instead. It is also very light, meaning that after wearing it for a couple days you won’t even realize it’s there until you need it.
There is no glare on the e-paper screen, the battery lasts seven days or more, and better connectivity than any smartwatch ever, this watch is taking the world by storm. The Pebble Smartwatch is the first truly functional watch for the 21st century. While this awesome watch won’t replace your smartphone, but it is definitely a worthy companion that can not only compliment your smartphone but can also make your life a lot easier and more fun.
