Easter Decorating Projects for Kids
Decorating your home for Easter and letting kids join in the fun can be a great way to enjoy family time and let the children feel like a part of the action. Most children enjoy craft projects that have to do with special holidays. Getting children involved with decorating the home for holidays can make them have a new sense of pride in the home, regardless of what room their decoration is displayed in.
Here are a few great projects that are simple and affordable for a wide variety of ages:
Potted Flower Plant
For this project, you will need a small flower pot, some puffy craft paint, construction paper, pen, tape, acrylic paint, and a large candy lollipop. You’ll also need Easter basket grass a variety of Easter or spring wrapped candy. Start by painting the flower pot in a bright Easter pastel, then use the craft paint to add a fun slogan or design. Examples include basics like Happy Easter, or religious theme or Easter eggs. Using puffy craft paint will make the slogan really stand out, and give the pot some texture and a 3-D effect.
Cut petals from construction paper, and tape to the lollipop to create a fun and interesting flower for your flower pot. Petals do not have to be all of the same color, and you can let kids choose whether they have the same color or multiple colors. Wrap construction paper around the lollipop’s stick to design the stem of the flower, and tape leaves to the stem if the child wishes.
Finally, put the flower in the pot, and hold in place by adding Easter basket grass topped and Easter candies to the pot as potting soil. Ideas include gummy worms, candy dirt available at some retailers during the Easter season, foiled candy with Easter themes or spring designs.
Unique Easter Basket
To create a very unique Easter basket, you will need any basket, solid or multi-colored eggs, Easter basket grass, construction paper, scissors, candy or small toys, and ribbon. You can use this project to teach colors, and use one color for the whole project, or create something with many different pastels, or the child’s favorite colors. Start by putting the Easter grass into the basket.
Use the ribbon to create a bow for the basket’s handle. Size does not matter; individual preference is the only limiting factor. Put candies or toys into the basket, keeping to the color theme if you are using one. The paper can be used to make a name tag for the basket, or to design decorations for the basket itself. Attach to the basket using tape or glue if desired.
If you want to add an Easter greeting or message, you can use acrylic paint or puffed craft paint on the basket or ribbon. Popular ideas include a Happy Easter theme, or a religious quote for this special holiday.
There are many more Easter themed kids decorating projects that you can find by using a search engine or heading into many local retailers nationwide. You can order project materials at most retailers, or online at a wide variety of websites. The price does not have to be outrageous, and many materials can be bought at very inexpensive prices.

Easter Activities the Entire Family Can Enjoy
Looking for something besides the traditional egg hunt to celebrate Easter? It’s a tradition that kids have enjoyed for years, but there is more to the season than the Easter Bunny and jelly beans. It’s a great time for parents to enjoy the festivities with the kids and get help everyone learn a little more about the history and meaning of the holiday. Here are some ideas that will make this Easter fun for everyone!
1. Have an educational egg hunt. Make up a list of questions that pertain to the Easter holiday. Purchase plastic eggs and tape one answer to each of the eggs. Then, give each family member a list of questions to go with the answers. When they find an egg, they can only keep it if it has the answer to one of their questions. Once all the eggs have been found, go over the questions and give each egg to its rightful owner. You should also include some special “prize” eggs that each family member can keep when they find them.
2. Have a spoon race. Set up a start line and finish line and have each member start with an egg (real or plastic will do) and the first one across the finish line wins! Award a prize to the winner and other participants as well.
3. Have an Easter “treasure” hunt. Instead of just hiding the eggs in the traditional fashion, hide in hidden areas and give a treasure map or list of clues to each participant to make the egg hunt more competitive for those who are old enough to enjoy a little extra challenge.
4. Hard boil eggs and have each family member design an egg that looks like them! You can stick to markers for adding features or you can purchase plastic craft eyes and different colors of yarn to use for hair.
5. Assign a different color for each family member and have each hunt their special eggs. This is a great approach for those families with several kids of different ages to make the hunt fair and prevent tears for the little ones.
6. Let each child make his/her own piñata while you assist. A regular balloon will make a great egg shape and you can let them design and decorate their own “egg” however they want. Prepare before Easter and then let them enjoy busting their own treat-filled creation. Look online for simple to follow instructions for making your own piñata.
7. Make Easter cards and send out or deliver to family and friends. Kids love to do artwork and you can purchase pre-folded cardboard and envelopes to use for your project. Decorative tools can be as simple or elaborate as you want.
8. Go to a sunrise service. Every family should enjoy this at least once — and then you will want to make it a part of your yearly Easter celebration.
9. Design your own Easter t-shirts. You can get transfers that you can create a piece of art on one side of and then iron onto the t-shirt of your choice. There are also crayons that children can color with and then iron into the shirt. For older children, you can choose more complex materials like paints or appliqué.
10. Make a mini Easter egg tree-you can use a topiary or a flocked Christmas tree, and decorate with bunnies, crosses, and eggs.
11. Make a traditional food item like hot cross buns, and talk about why people make these on Easter.
When you make your Easter celebration into an event the entire family can take part in, you will enjoy this special day even more.
