Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids

Kids like to create things, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to let them get creative. Here are some ideas to get them started.

Kids can give their teachers a bouquet of roses. These aren’t just any ! These special roses are made of tissue paper and pipe cleaners. Show kids how to fold the tissue paper and wrap it around the pipe cleaners. The flowers can be presented in a vase or with a ribbon tied around them.

Candy is still the most popular thing to use for crafts. Instead of , use candy to create bracelets for boys in the class. Candy pieces can be strung over a piece of string. It’ll look nice at first and the boys can nibble on the candy throughout the day, kind of like a snack on the go.

Valentine’s Day crafts can be created for family members. If grandma is into flowers, kids can give them a flower pot with seeds and a little bag of potting soil. Using paints, kids can decorate the pots in Valentine’s Day fashion.

Instead of buying packs of Valentine’s Day cards, let the kids use a card program and make their own for other members of the family. They can add whatever they want to the card. Some cards come blank for the kids to write what they want or with cute sayings already inside.

Kids can make Valentine’s Day decorations for the house to put everyone in the mood to express their love. Using a piece of string, construction paper, scissors and glue, they can create a banner to be hung in the kitchen or anywhere in the house. Each paper heart can contain one letter in the words “Valentine’s Day”.

Make arrows for the boys so that they can pretend to be Cupid. Instead of metal, use wooden skewers as the arrow. pieces in the shape of hearts can be painted red and stuck on the end of the skewer. Pieces of ribbon can be glued to the other end to act as feathers on the arrow. To create a quiver for the arrows, use an empty cereal box.

Your child can make a Valentine’s Day box for each child to hold their precious cards. The boxes can be purchased at a dollar store. If the boxes are not already decorated for the occasion, kids can use markers or paint to add hearts to the box. Write each child’s name on the outside of the box. A piece or candy can be added to the box so that the kids don’t open it and find it empty.

Valentine’s Day is fun for kids. They get to have a good time making crafts for others and enjoying gifts given to them.

Stress Management Tips for Busy Moms

The kids are screaming, the pot is boiling over on the stovetop, the telephone is ringing… On top of all of this, you have to run errands and pay the bills. Does this ever happen to you? Every mom has had two or more of these events going on at the same time. Here are some tips to help us cope with the stress caused by such times.

Stress gets out of control when we respond in an unfavorable way to the situations in our lives. Ignoring stressful situations doesn’t help anything. The stressful situations continue to pile up until we run out of the house screaming or the kids do.

The first tip is to start the day with a plan of action. No one can account for all unforeseen situations. But if you have a plan, your day will at least have a fighting chance.

Schedules are a mom’s best friend. People scoff at lists, but they do help to organize thoughts and keep mom from adding too much to her plate. If you have school age kids, they will need to be seen off in the morning. Getting up an hour earlier than them leaves time to prepare lunches, fix breakfast, sign permission slips, lay out clothes, and whatever else needs to be done. Though you will be busy, you will be uninterrupted.

For moms with infants, getting up an hour earlier allows for preparation for baby’s awakening too. Bottles can be fixed and the prepared if you plan on going out during the day. Babies that wake for feedings on regular schedule also help mom. Knowing when they will be likely to wake up gives you an idea of when to rise.

The next tip is to spend some time in peace and quiet. Fifteen minutes in the morning will put the day into perspective. You can meditate, pray, or perform . Any of these activities and more will give the mind time not to think.

This time can also be used to count your blessings. Recount to yourself all of the things in your life that you are thankful for. A positive attitude is a good way to start each morning.

Another tip to manage stress is to let it all out. Most moms practice composure in all situations, but sometimes emotion is warranted. Jamming your finger in the door or pinching it in the stroller when you are packing it in the car is painful. Let out a yell. Not only does that yell help to ease the pain, it stops negative feelings from welling up inside of you. A good yell or scream is a way of releasing potential stress before it has a chance to sabotage your day.

tips are designed to equip moms to deal with the rigors of their day. This includes working moms, stay at home moms, and moms that work from home. Whatever your occupation, stress can creep in when you least expect it. Get ahead of it and nip it in the bud.

Valentine’s Day Goes High Tech

Remember Valentine’s Day as a kid? Back then it meant a shoe box with paper decorations and valentines the size of index cards with complex sentiments like “Be Mine.”

How times have changed! Valentine’s Day has been hit with the same high-tech bus that has driven through the rest of our lives. Today, some adults are turning to the Internet to communicate their affection and in ways you’d never expect.

A quick search of the web for “Valentine’s Day” turns up sites where you can:

  1. Send a free electronic to a love interest or friend.
  2. Visit “love and learn” pages for romantic advice.
  3. Dedicate a URL (web page address) to a valentine.
  4. E-mail a love adviser for personal help.
  5. Visit a chatroom to talk with other romantics.
  6. For the poetically challenged, one site offers to write love letters. All you have to do is enter your sweetheart’s name, a special date or two, and details like your favorite place. While these letters may not win any awards, they at least show that you did know it was Valentine’s Day, and made a wild stab at sharing your feelings.

The Internet offers innovative ways to express affection. But in the end, it can’t top a simple valentine or letter. If you really want to tell someone how you feel, write them a letter, pick up the phone or just drop by to see them. Licking the flap of an envelope is awfully low tech, but your letter will be remembered long after an e-mail gets deleted.

Better yet, plan a date she’ll never forget. You won’t forget it either!
